Matthew Hartman Appointed Director, Access Services - Stony Brook University Libraries (stonybrook.edu) — Matthew Hartman, a two-time Stony Brook graduate who helped develop the university libraries’ natural-language search tool, will become director of Access Services on November 9. His new role covers circulation, resource sharing and course reserves, building on a library career at the university that began in 2018. 
2. Stony Brook Village celebrates with tricks and treats on Halloween (tbrnewsmedia.com) — Costumed trick-or-treaters filled Stony Brook Village on Oct. 31 as Village Center merchants handed out free candy during a celebration organized by the Ward Melville Heritage Organization. Face painting, Halloween decorations and scarecrows added to the afternoon's festivities, captured in a photo gallery by Greg Catalano.
3. AIAA Space Medicine Panel Explores the Intersection of Engineering, Medicine, and Space Exploration (stonybrook.edu) — Stony Brook students explored how engineering and medicine come together to keep astronauts healthy at an October 15 campus panel featuring NASA engineers. Speakers discussed research aboard the International Space Station and work supporting Artemis missions, while a hands-on CPR session brought the health lessons back to Earth.
4. This Turkey-Sized 'Hell Chicken' Lived Alongside T. rex and Ate Fruit, a First Among All Known Dinosaurs (dailygalaxy.com) — Stony Brook University paleontologists helped identify a turkey-sized dinosaur whose unusual skull suggests it specialized in eating fruit. The researchers found chewing muscles arranged much like those of fruit-eating parrots, offering evidence that Infernogallus jamesi filled an unexpected ecological role alongside T. rex.
5. Camel football takes down Stony Brook (tncontentexchange.com) — Stony Brook let a 14-point second-half lead slip away Saturday, falling 48–35 at No. 16 Campbell. The visitors did not score again after an early third-quarter touchdown, while Campbell rallied behind quarterback Kamden Sixkiller. The loss leaves Stony Brook 5–5 overall and 3–3 in CAA play.
