• Deadly flesh-eating bacteria found in New York waters (syracuse.com) — Stony Brook University marine scientists have detected dangerous flesh-eating Vibrio vulnificus bacteria in several Long Island ponds, raising concerns for anyone with open wounds or weakened immune systems. Researchers say warming waters and pollution are helping the bacteria spread locally, and they urge residents to avoid swimming or exposing cuts to affected waters and to be cautious with shellfish consumption.
