📰 News we're reading

• Police identify man found dead in water tower at Lotte Biologics (syracuse.com) — A 21-year-old Syracuse man has been identified as the person found dead in a water-cooling tower at Lotte Biologics in DeWitt, with Syracuse firefighters assisting in the recovery. Police say there's no evidence of foul play so far, and an autopsy by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner will determine how and when he died. The man had previously been reported missing after last being seen in Syracuse's Eastwood neighborhood.

• E-bike Battery Blamed for June Fatal Fire in Syracuse, NY (firehouse.com) — City fire officials say a failed e-bike battery sparked the June blaze that killed a 79-year-old man in an illegal Syracuse boarding house, where serious code violations hindered rescue efforts. The city has cited the property owner and may pursue further action as the heavily damaged South State Street home remains unfit for occupancy and under discussion for repair or demolition.

• New Tool Shows If Your License Plate Was Searched Through Flock (wgna.com) — Syracuse drivers can now use a new website to see if their license plate has been searched in Flock's national database, even though the city recently replaced its Flock cameras with Axon models. The story explains how the tool works, why local agencies used Flock, and ongoing privacy concerns about automated license plate readers across Central New York.
