A city zoning report cites violence, crowd issues, and alleged violations, while the owner and supporters argue the long-running nightlife model should stay and be better managed rather than displaced.

Radio at a Funk 'n Waffles benefit show, hike Green Lakes' scenic trails, and enjoy the BareRoots Music Festival in Thornden Park. Harvey's Garden hosts an Oktoberfest with a dachshund race, La Casita celebrates quinceañera traditions with a new exhibit, and comedian Whitney Cummings brings her Big Baby Tour to the Oncenter.
   

3. Syracuse police identify man fatally shot inside North Side Home (syracuse.com) — Syracuse police have identified 21-year-old Kayvion Davis of Syracuse as the man fatally shot Saturday evening inside a North Side home on South Alvord Street. Officers found him with a gunshot wound after a reported robbery, and despite CPR he died at the scene. Investigators, who previously raided the same address in a drug bust, are asking anyone with information to contact detectives.
   

4. Meet the mom who keeps the Cicero-North Syracuse marching band looking sew good (syracuse.com) — A dedicated Cicero-North Syracuse marching band mom is the behind-the-scenes force keeping uniforms sharp, socks coordinated, and last-minute wardrobe emergencies under control at practices and competitions around Syracuse. She volunteers countless hours sewing, hemming, and inspecting outfits so judges focus on the band's performance, not distractions, and is now racing to prepare new costumes for the Northstars' upcoming home showcase.
   

5. Arts center exhibits watercolors from local veteran turned artist (dailyorange.com) — A central New York veteran-turned-artist now living in Fayetteville is showcasing his moody watercolor farmscapes at the Salmon River Fine Arts Center in Pulaski through Oct. 10, with all sales benefiting ALS research. The exhibit, created with support from friends he met after returning near Syracuse, doubles as a community gathering space and a testament to his determination to keep painting despite an ALS diagnosis.
