6 Inwood Buildings Earn Spot On NYC's Worst Landlord List
A half a dozen buildings in Inwood appear on this year's "Worst Landlord Watchlist," based on open violations from the city. Find out where.

INWOOD, NY — In a year where families all over the city had a harder time making rent payments due to the ongoing pandemic, residents still had to contend with the mistreatment by their landlords — including in Inwood.
Overall, six buildings in the Upper Manhattan neighborhood earned an undesirable spot on 2021's "Worst Landlord Watchlist" put together by the Public Advocate's office.
The city office compiled the annual report between December 2020 and November 2021 by sampling the average number of serious, unresolved violations of the city's housing code at buildings around the city each month.

Managing agents were then ranked by their average number of open violations, according to THE CITY, which first reported on this year's study.
The worst run building in Inwood based on the average number of violations it received this year from the city's Housing Preservation and Development Department?

That would be a tie between 549 Isham Street and 9 Post Avenue, which both recorded 124 violations in the last year.
The ranking uses HPD data on the two most severe classes of violations, which can include rodent infestations, lead-based paint, failure to provide public doors and lighting, or a lack of heat, hot water, electricity, or gas.
Here are all six of the Inwood buildings featured on this year's worst landlord list, and the number of violations recorded in the last eleven months:

- 252 Sherman Avenue: 69 Violations - Median Income By Tenant: $54,400
- 549 Isham Street: 124 Violations - Median Income By Tenant: $54,400
- 595 West 207th Street: 110 Violations - Median Income By Tenant: $54,400
- 4925 Broadway: 123 Violations - Median Income By Tenant: $54,400
- 509 West 212th Street: 104 Violations - Median Income By Tenant: $54,400
There were two landlords who owned more than one of the Inwood buildings on this year's list from the Public Advocate's office: Lewis Barbanel and Michael Daniel.
In a sign of some improvement, there were eight Inwood buildings featured on the 2020 Worst Landlord Watchlist.
A little farther downtown, 22 buildings in Washington Heights featured on this year's Worst Landlord Watchlist.
