📰 News we're reading

1. WATER ADVISORY The Town of Watertown Water Department will begin (nny360.com) — If you live or drive in the Town of Watertown, expect water main flushing from Sunday, June 15 through Thursday, June 25 in several key corridors, including US Route 11, NYS Routes 232 and 3, and nearby developments. Residents and businesses may see rusty or discolored water and are urged to avoid doing laundry and use extra caution around work crews.

2. Man accused of throwing knife at woman lives in apartment tied to child death probe (wwnytv.com) — Police say a Watertown resident is jailed without bail after being charged with menacing and weapon possession, accused of throwing a knife at a woman outside his Ohio Street apartment. That same Eastbrook Apartments unit was also the site of a separate police investigation into a 2-year-old’s death reported by Samaritan Medical Center, though officers have not said whether the cases are connected.

3. Assessment: Stabilizing Watertown building would have cost $1.2 million (wwnytv.com) — Watertown taxpayers are footing a $450,000 bill to demolish a long-troubled downtown building at 223 JB Wise Place after the owner fell behind on city taxes. A prior bank assessment estimated stabilizing the structure alone at about $1.2 million, with full rehabilitation potentially reaching $9.5 million, fueling debate over whether demolition was the only realistic option.

4. Watertown pool fund sees donations after new fees announced (wwnytv.com) — New pool fees in Watertown have sparked fresh donations to a community fund aiming to make city pool admission free, especially for families who can’t afford $3 per person. About $3,100 has been raised so far toward a $50,000 goal that could cover this summer’s attendance or at least fund free days for kids, with city leaders praising residents’ generosity.

5. Watertown's Dickinson, Corey, named 2026 William I. Graf Award recipients (newzjunky.com) — Two Watertown High School seniors, Marra Dickinson and Maddox Corey, have been honored as this year’s William I. Graf Award recipients, recognizing them as the school’s top graduating athletes. Their achievements span multiple sports, strong academics, and extensive community service, supported by a long-running scholarship fund managed by the Northern New York Community Foundation and the Italian-American Civic Association.
