Head-On, 2-Car DWI Crash In Hampton Bays Leads To Injuries, Arrest: Police

1 driver was taken the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after a head-on crash in Hampton Bays Tuesday night, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the two-car crash took place at about 9:30 p.m. in the vicinity of East Montauk Highway and Bittersweet Avenue S.

Patrol units responded and determined that one of the involved drivers, while operating a vehicle in an intoxicated condition, collided head-on with the other vehicle, causing damage to both vehicles and injuries to the other driver, who was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Consequently, Johany E. Ortiz-Valdez, 49, of Hampton Bays, was arrested and transported to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing and to be held for morning arraignment, police said.

He was charged with two counts of DWI, misdemeanors, as well as other traffic infractions, police said.
