Downtown Music Presents: Nathaniel Sullivan, baritone & Nathaniel LaNasa, piano

A program of music by Beethoven, Faure and DeBlasi.

An "alert and highly musical baritone" (Opera News), Nathaniel Sullivan infuses his work with "impressive strength and precision" (Schmopera), as well as “great eloquence” and "allegiance to both music and words" (ConcertoNet).  He has appeared with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and the Alabama Symphony. He has been heard at Tanglewood, Carnegie Hall, and with Apollo’s Fire.  A winner of the 2023 Astral Artists National Competition, Nathaniel is the recipient of the Grace B. Jackson Prize for exceptional service at the Tanglewood Music Center.

Pianist Nathaniel LaNasa has been praised for his “stormy lyricism” (The New York Times), his “dark, liquid piano tone” (Classical Music Daily), and his “poise and elegance” (Feast of Music). As winners of the 2019 Joy In Singing International Art Song Competition, Nate and partner, baritone Gregory Feldmann, made their sold-out Carnegie Hall debut in February 2020.  He has appeared in song partnerships at the Musée d’Orsay, Royaumont Abbey, the Brooklyn Art Song Society, and the New York Festival of Song. In 2022, Nate took charge of the Festival of Song’s new music series, NYFOS Next, where his presentations of works by living composers at the Rubin Museum have received critical acclaim.
