Reggie Harris is a singer-songwriter, storyteller and world-renowned song-leader who is a powerful interpreter of the global music narrative. A passionate, engaging inspirational entertainer and concert artist Reggie is recognized for focusing new energy on the important role of music in the discourse for inclusion and the struggle for human rights using the lessons of history as a base. As an expert on the music of the Underground Railroad and the Modern Civil Rights Movement he is at home on stage as performer, lecturer or leading discussion in seminars or in the classroom. It is a pleasure to welcome him to Downtown Music.

The 12 professional voices of the Downtown Music Chorale celebrate the music of Anglo-African composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and his circle of colleagues including Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. Considered a genius during his lifetime, Coleridge-Taylor made three tours of the United States and, in 1904, met with President Theodore Roosevelt at the White House. One of the most progressive composers of his day, Coleridge-Taylor embraced the use of traditional African melodies alongside more traditional techniques learned at the Royal College of Music in London.









Timothy Lewis, Artistic Director of Downtown Music, leads this program which includes commentary placing the music in historical context.

Downtown Music Presents: The Third Annual Dorothy Jackson Memorial Concert

Robert Chausow, violin, Martin Agee, violin, Michael Roth, viola and Eugene Moye, cello present string quartets of Prokofiev and Brahms.

Both of these composers approached the string quartet form with reverence and some intimidation, with the examples of Haydn and Beethoven looming over them. Brahms is said to have thrown over 20 string quartets into the fireplace before settling on this “No. 1,” and Prokofiev composed his “2nd” while a Moscow evacuee as Nazi air raids bombarded the city.

Downtown Music Presents: Chamber Music with the Phil – Forged In Fire

Downtown Music is thrilled to welcome Ruth Ungar and Mike Merenda of The Mammals, who hail from New York’s Hudson Valley. Over two decades, the Mammals have built a legacy of genre-defying and emotionally resonant folk-rock praised as “some of the best songwriting of their generation” (LA Times). Their music resonates with urgency and tenderness—amplifying the voices of conscience, connection, and the full spectrum of human experience. Referred to as “subversive acoustic traditionalists” by the Boston Globe, The Mammals blend old-timey roots music with lyrical fire and magnetic force.

Downtown Music Presents Mike and Ruthie of The Mammals

Angelica, the women’s chamber choir directed by Marie Caruso returns to Downtown Music. In addition to its holiday concert, this wonderful group offers an annual spring concert which, this year, explores music inspired by longing, beauty, and spiritual contemplation. The program features early American devotional songs rich in heartfelt simplicity, alongside selections from our Canadian neighbors, whose music draws from French and English traditions, indigenous influences, and folk roots. Together, these musical offerings reflect both individual and collective expressions of grief, hope, and transcendence.
