Craft Breweries And Trampoline Parks: Yorktown Rezones Jefferson Valley Mall With A New Vision In Mind

YORKTOWN, NY— The Yorktown Town Board has approved a zoning amendment that expands the permitted uses at Jefferson Valley Mall, opening the door to craft breweries, amusement centers and indoor recreation facilities.

The change, announced Tuesday, is aimed at helping the mall adapt to changing retail patterns and filling commercial space with businesses built around entertainment and experiences. According to the announcement, the updated zoning rules are meant to support interest from entrepreneurs looking to establish newer, experience-driven businesses at the mall.

Among the commercial uses floated are indoor trampoline parks and golf simulators.

“This zoning change allows us to adapt to modern commercial trends and keep our primary retail corridors vibrant," said Supervisor Ed Lachterman.

The zoning update reflects broader changes happening at suburban shopping centers nationwide. As traditional department store anchors and long-standing brick-and-mortar retailers leave large spaces behind, mall operators have increasingly looked to entertainment venues, fitness centers and family play spaces as possible anchor tenants that can help drive foot traffic.

The announcement also points to growing demand in the Lower Hudson Valley for indoor recreation and experiential businesses. Earlier this year, Cloudbound opened a family play facility in New Rochelle with trampolines, obstacle courses and active play zones, according to the announcement. That opening was cited as one example of regional interest in year-round indoor recreation.

With the new zoning rules now in place, Yorktown officials expect prospective recreation and entertainment tenants to finalize lease agreements at Jefferson Valley Mall. The expected result is new economic activity along the Jefferson Valley shopping corridor.
