• Judge finds 'egregious' violations in Southport alderman DUI case (starnewsonline.com subscription) — A recent DWI case involving Southport Alderman Robert Carroll was dismissed after a judge ruled the arresting officer violated his rights while transporting him to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office in Bolivia. The judge cited improper limits on witness calls and failure to honor the 30‑minute waiting period before a blood draw, calling the violations “egregious” and leaving dismissal as the only remedy.
