📰 News we're reading

• Civic leaders back Morrison YMCA sale (thecharlotteledger.com) — Charlotte civic and business leaders are publicly backing the YMCA of Greater Charlotte's decision to sell the Morrison Family YMCA in Ballantyne to Moments of Hope Church, despite vocal neighborhood opposition. They argue the $42.5 million offer and post‑pandemic financial pressures make the sale necessary to keep the broader YMCA system strong, while promising continued services for Ballantyne families through other locations and programs.

• Avoid stadium parking headaches with Panthers game day express buses (qcnews.com) — If you're heading to Panthers games in uptown Charlotte, new CATS express buses can spare you the stress and high cost of stadium parking. For under $7 round trip, they'll run from eight park-and-ride lots starting 2.5 hours before kickoff and for 30 minutes after games, dropping riders about three-quarters of a mile from Bank of America Stadium.

• Cooper Says Some Were 'Frustrated' Not More Prisoners Were Released Under COVID-Era Settlement (thebeltwayreport.com) — A statewide debate over early prisoner releases during COVID has resurfaced a Charlotte tragedy, as it's confirmed that a man charged in a light‑rail killing here was among those freed under the settlement. Former Gov. Roy Cooper, now running for U.S. Senate, is defending the policy on CNN while Republicans highlight crime concerns and his vetoes of tougher enforcement bills.
