1. A long-drained Fayetteville dam gets a second look (fayobserver.com) — Fayetteville has committed $1.65 million to redesign and permit a retrofit of the long-drained College Lake dam in the College Lakes neighborhood, aiming to turn it into a dry pond for stormwater control. The high-hazard dam, one of more than 25 in Fayetteville, could help reduce flooding risks once upgraded, though total construction costs won't be known until design work finishes within two years.

2. Fayetteville Woman Wants Teachers To Help State's Foster Care Crisis (cityviewnc.com) — A Fayetteville-based foster care agency, Family Services of America, is recruiting local and statewide teachers to serve as licensed respite caregivers through its new Teacher Respite Initiative. Founder Shannon Battle and Cumberland County educator Michelle Smith explain how educators can provide short-term care for foster children, easing a critical shortage that affects 714 kids in county care and often pushes placements outside the region.

3. Man charged with exposing himself to kids on Cumberland County school bus, police say (cbs17.com) — Fayetteville police say cellphone video and city cameras helped them arrest a 74-year-old man accused of lewd behavior directed at children riding a Cumberland County school bus. Youth Services detectives have charged him with multiple counts of indecent liberties and indecent exposure, and they're asking anyone with additional information to contact a named investigator.

4. Last minute supply runs: Cumberland County teachers stock up (abc11.com) — With just a week before school starts, Cumberland County teachers in Fayetteville are flocking to School Tools on Raeford Road to stock up on classroom supplies and decorations. Local educators say shopping in person helps them quickly find what they need to create welcoming, well-prepared classrooms for students and parents during the hectic back‑to‑school rush.
