1. Fayetteville State University Unveils Nearly $70 Million College of Education Building (jbhe.com) — Fayetteville State University has opened a new $69.3 million College of Education building that centralizes classrooms, labs, and offices into one modern, tech-equipped hub. The four-story facility also includes space for community programs like reading clinics and special education services, strengthening FSU's role in training teachers and supporting families across the Fayetteville region.

2. Fayetteville PWC customers will pay more for electricity starting September 1 (cbs17.com) — Starting September 1, Fayetteville PWC customers will see electric bills rise by about $1.24 per month on average due to higher wholesale power costs from Duke Energy Progress. The utility is using a temporary Power Supply Adjustment and deferring about $5 million in costs to soften the immediate impact on more than 86,000 local homes, businesses, and churches.

3. Fort Bragg among five US military sites selected to host nuclear microreactor (cbs17.com) — Fort Bragg, just outside Fayetteville, has been picked as one of five U.S. bases to host a new nuclear microreactor, aimed at keeping critical operations powered even if the grid fails. Army officials say the Janus Program will test small, long-running reactors for on-base energy resilience, while critics question cost, safety, and the military's role in subsidizing nuclear technology.

4. Silicon Florist links arrangement for August 28, 2026 (siliconflorist.com) — Fayetteville is singled out alongside Hinesville and Cheyenne as one of the densest hubs for new business formation, outperforming much larger metros like New York and Los Angeles. The broader piece surveys startup, AI, and investment trends, but its key local takeaway is that Fayetteville's entrepreneurial scene is punching well above its weight.
