• Gaston County teachers advocating for Cherryville school to stay open amid budget fall (qcnews.com) — Parents and teachers from Gaston County are urging school board members in Gastonia to keep W.B. Beam Intermediate School in Cherryville open despite a $288,000 budget deficit. With hundreds of new homes planned nearby and recent staffing cuts across the district, they fear shifting students to Cherryville Elementary or Chavis Middle will worsen overcrowding and hurt learning. A crucial board vote is set for Monday.

Now, with most relatives gone and economic pressures mounting, the family feels it’s the right time to end the business’s long run.
