Three CVCC Programs Earn NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Honors (whky.com) — Student-athletes at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory just earned major academic recognition, with the baseball, softball and women’s basketball teams all named NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year. The programs posted record-high GPAs, underscoring CVCC’s emphasis on classroom success alongside athletic competition and reflecting positively on Hickory’s hometown community college. 
2. North Carolina gas station clerk Robin Doyle killed by sex offender Leroy Allen Loper (amedpost.com) — A Hickory woman, 58-year-old gas station clerk Robin Doyle, was found dead in northeastern Catawba County after being reported missing from her Hickory home. Deputies have arrested registered sex offender Leroy Allen Loper on murder, kidnapping and related charges, while friends and customers remember Doyle as a kind, familiar face behind the counter.
3. CVPA Presents Powers Of Attorney Seminar, August 11 (focusnewspaper.com) — Hickory-area residents can attend a free August 11 seminar at Catawba Valley Community College on the fundamentals of powers of attorney, offered in person and via Zoom. Local attorney Casey Pope will explain key legal requirements and the paralegal’s role in these documents. Certified paralegals can also earn one hour of continuing education credit for a small fee.
4. Hendersonville's City Manager Announces New Opportunity with the North Carolina League of Municipalities (hendersonvillenc.gov) — North Carolina municipal leader John Connet is leaving his role as Hendersonville’s city manager to become Director of City Relations for the N.C. League of Municipalities, and his background includes seven years working for the City of Hickory. His new position will support hundreds of towns statewide, while Hendersonville leaders plan a smooth transition in city management.
