• Deadly North Carolina shooting under investigation for self-defense (myfox8.com) — Lumberton police are investigating an April 4 fatal shooting on Seneca Street and will soon ask the Robeson County District Attorney to decide if it was justified under North Carolina’s self-defense laws. A resident is accused of shooting a man who entered the home and already faces firearm charges, while detectives continue gathering evidence and await lab and autopsy results.
   

• $215M approved for water, sewer upgrades across 26 counties after Helene damage (newschannel9.com) — Lumberton is set to receive nearly $5.9 million to replace lead water service lines, part of a $215 million statewide package to repair and harden water and sewer systems after Helene. The funding will support two phases of Lumberton’s lead line replacement work, aiming to improve drinking water safety and resilience for local households while other NC communities tackle storm damage and PFAS concerns.
   

• ‘Senseless act': Man murdered while working on tractor in Robeson C (wpde.com) — A Maxton man who was shot while working on a farm tractor died at UNC Southeastern Medical Center in Lumberton, and deputies have ruled the case a homicide. Robeson County investigators are calling it a senseless act and are asking anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
