Oak Island police seek witnesses after assault leaves victim with internal injuries (wect.com) — Oak Island police are investigating a June 9 nighttime assault that left a pedestrian with possible internal injuries near E Oak Drive and NE 78th Street. Officers are asking nearby residents to review any home or vehicle camera footage and report suspicious activity or matching juvenile suspects who were last seen heading east on Elizabeth Drive.

2. Brunswick County issues water conservation alert amid drought, rising temperatures (wwaytv3.com) — Oak Island residents are under a Stage 1 Water Conservation Alert, with Brunswick County asking you to avoid lawn irrigation from 5 to 11 a.m. and follow an odd-even watering schedule by street address. Officials also urge simple conservation steps like shorter showers, limiting weekly lawn watering, and skipping laundry or dishwashing during peak morning demand.

3. Holden Beach interviews town attorney applicant (newsargus.com) — Holden Beach leaders are considering hiring a Chapel Hill law firm that already serves Oak Island, with attorney Lydia Lavelle citing her Oak Island work on beach nourishment, dredging, tourism, and parking as key experience. Commissioners questioned potential conflicts and meeting attendance, and will review a formal engagement letter at their June 16 meeting.

Melissa Dawn Jarvis, 54 (portcitydaily.com) — Oak Island residents are mourning the passing of 54-year-old Melissa “Missy” Dawn Jarvis, whose mother and sister live in town and remember her deep love for family and the beach. A UNC Charlotte honors graduate, she was known for her kindness, peacemaking spirit, and devotion to nieces and nephews. The family suggests donations to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare Foundation in her memory.
