1. Gallery at DREAMS Center for Arts Education reopens with new exhibition (wwaytv3.com) — DREAMS Center for Arts Education in Wilmington is reopening its gallery Friday with "Wooden That Be Fun?," a playful mermaid-and-sea-creature show by North Carolina artist Bob Ostrom. Residents can meet the artist Aug. 28 from 6–9 p.m. at 901 Fanning St. The zero-commission gallery aims to support artists at all stages while connecting them with local youth.
   

2. Meet a 1L: Griffin Polinsky '29L (wlu.edu) — A first-year law student at Washington and Lee grew up in Wilmington and is now starting his 1L year after graduating from Northeastern University. He talks about looking forward to W&L's close-knit community, continuing his Ironman triathlon training, and how his adventurous streak includes scuba diving with sharks. Locals get a glimpse of where one hometown graduate is headed next.
   

3. Wilmington restaurant honors soul food legend Lynwood 'Booty' Davis (wwaytv3.com) — On Thyme Restaurant on Castle Street in Wilmington recently honored late soul food legend Lynwood "Booty" Davis by serving a full day of his favorite dishes. Davis, founder of Booty's Soul Food and a pioneering Black restaurant owner, inspired many, including current owner Corey Scott. The tribute highlighted his decades of feeding and encouraging the community.
   

4. Wilmington police teach women the mental side of self-defense (wwaytv3.com) — Women in Wilmington can sign up now for a four-day self-defense course run by the Wilmington Police Department that blends practical moves with mental awareness training. Instructors focus on recognizing threats, improving recall under stress, and everyday situational awareness. The next session starts Sept. 16, with applications available through the City of Wilmington.
   

5. 'He's doing it': Rescue kitten takes first steps using Lego wheelchair (wect.com) — In Wilmington, a Bricks & Minifigs employee built a custom Lego wheelchair so a rescue kitten named Rex can finally take his first steps. Local rescue groups say the low-cost device is a huge breakthrough for his rehabilitation and future adoptability. The story highlights how one specialty toy shop and volunteers are teaming up to give an injured animal a second chance.
