Thalian Hall invites community members to design tabletop Christmas trees (portcitydaily.com) — Wilmington residents, businesses, and groups are invited to pick up a free tabletop tree at the Hannah Block Historic USO/Community Arts Center starting Sept. 21 to decorate for Thalian Association's Lighting the Way charity auction. Only 32 trees are available, and the finished creations will be displayed in the lobby and auctioned online in November to support the community arts center.
   

2. Tony-Winning musical 'Avenue Q' brings puppets and adult humor to Thalian Hall (wect.com) — Avenue Q is opening this week at Thalian Hall's Ruth & Bucky Stein Theatre in downtown Wilmington, offering an adults-only, puppet-filled musical about post-college life and relationships. Local performers describe the challenge of combining puppetry, singing, and dancing, and tickets are available now through the Thalian Hall box office or website for those 16 and older.
   

3. Wilmington couple, 3 dealership employees face assault charges after altercation (wwaytv3.com) — A Wilmington couple and three employees of CarWise Auto Sales on Carolina Beach Road are facing simple assault charges after a confrontation over belongings in a repossessed vehicle turned physical. The Greens and dealership each dispute what happened, with cellphone video, a dealership statement, and an ongoing Wilmington Police investigation expected to clarify how the altercation unfolded.
   

4. WPD recognized for supporting women in law enforcement (wwaytv3.com) — Wilmington residents may be interested to know their police department has been named the 2026 Agency of the Year by the North Carolina Law Enforcement Women's Association, honoring its support for women officers. The award recognizes WPD's leadership, mentorship, and professional development efforts, including strong participation in the statewide conference and ongoing collaboration to advance women in law enforcement across North Carolina.
   

5. Community leaders demand more transparency in Wilmington officer-involved shooting (wect.com) — Community leaders and family members in Wilmington are pressing for more transparency weeks after police shot 35-year-old Rodney Wilson during what relatives describe as a mental health crisis. At a press conference near 7th and Red Cross streets, they called for release of body camera footage and more crisis intervention, while state investigators continue reviewing the case and involved officers remain on paid leave.
