• Akron man pleads guilty in Highland Square shooting death (cleveland.com) — An Akron man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and related gun and drug charges after a 2025 shootout in Highland Square left bystander Timothy Hutchinson dead. Prosecutors say the same defendant was previously convicted in the Ethan Liming case outside the I Promise School in Akron. Both he and a co-defendant now face October sentencing in Summit County.
   

• First Serve's annual day of service (spectrumnews1.com) — Hundreds of volunteers just wrapped up First Serve's annual Day of Service in Akron's North Hill neighborhood, tackling about 60 projects from mural painting to organizing donated dresses. Organizers from First Congregational Church of Hudson say the day is as much about building relationships across faiths and communities as it is about cleaning and repairs, and they're already inviting Akron-area residents to join future volunteer efforts.
