• Heat closes 2 schools in Norton, Our Lady of the Elms in Akron (beaconjournal.com) — Our Lady of the Elms in Akron will be closed today, Sept. 2, because of dangerous heat, while Norton's elementary and middle schools are also shutting their doors. A heat advisory is in effect across northern Ohio, with heat index values near 100 and the possibility of heat-related illness, and conditions may persist into Thursday. 
• Cuyahoga Falls man sentenced to life for child rape (cleveland.com) — A Summit County judge in Akron has sentenced a 37-year-old Cuyahoga Falls man to life in prison for raping a child under his care and possessing explicit images of children. He'll be eligible for parole after 31 to 35 years and must register as a Tier III sex offender for life, underscoring ongoing local efforts to combat child abuse.
