• Amherst Arts Festival to celebrate all forms of art (morningjournal.com) — Downtown Amherst will turn into an open-air arts hub on Sept. 5, when Main Street Amherst and American Outlaw Tattoo host the new Amherst Arts Festival on Park Avenue and Church Street. Residents can enjoy live performances, circus acts, kids’ art activities, and food while exploring local shops and restaurants. Artists and vendors can still register or sponsor through the Main Street Amherst website. 
• Elyria considers annexing Amherst Twp farmland for housing development (news5cleveland.com) — Elyria officials are weighing whether to annex two parcels of Amherst Township farmland to support a new single-family housing development tied into Elyria’s sewer, streets, and emergency services. Neighbors in Amherst Township and New Russia Township worry this move could open the door to larger industrial “mega site” development near Lorain County Airport. County commissioners will consider the annexation recommendation on August 25.
• Thomas A. Funderburg (86) (mycountylink.com) — Amherst readers may know the family of Thomas A. Funderburg, whose son John Funderburg lives here while Thomas spent most of his life in Greenville, Ohio. The obituary shares his long marriage, career as a draftsman, love of the outdoors and woodworking, and details for Saturday’s Celebration of Life and burial in Greenville.
