Two Ohio University students arrested during demonstration (woub.org) — Two Ohio University students were arrested in Athens during a Thursday protest that moved from outside Baker Center into Walter Hall, where trustees were meeting. Police say the students violated the indoor use policy, while organizers criticized the university’s response to Senate Bill 1, closure of key centers, and rejection of a student-backed divestment referendum.

Athens' Liza Hartman signs letter of intent to play volleyball at Earlham College (athensmessenger.com) — Athens High School volleyball standout Liza Hartman has officially signed her letter of intent to continue her career at Earlham College, celebrating with family, friends, and teammates in The Plains. After leading Athens to a 16-7 season and earning All-Conference honors, she’s now preparing for Division III play in Indiana while planning to double major in business and Spanish.
   

3. Ratha Con 2026 (athensnews.com) — Ratha Con 2026 is gearing up with cosplay contests, retro gaming from Athens Retro Games, tabletop miniatures, and card tournaments, plus a community food drive. Fans can meet YouTube guest Melody Nosurname and hear local writer Caitlin Seida’s new reading, alongside steampunk brewery fun from Horatio Hops and spooky tales from Janette Quackenbush.
   

4. Great Ohio Climate March to start in Athens (thepostathens.com) — A two-week Great Ohio Climate March will kick off at the Athens Farmers Market on May 16, sending walkers on a 100-mile trek to the Statehouse in Columbus. Organizers hope Athens-area residents will join to spotlight fracking in Ohio’s parks, the oil and gas industry’s political influence, and the promise of renewable energy alternatives like solar.
