• Bedford Heights teen drowns in Aurora lake Thursday afternoon, officials say (wkyc.com) — A 15-year-old Bedford Heights boy drowned Thursday afternoon while swimming in a quarry lake off Treat Road in Aurora, despite rescue efforts by Aurora police, firefighters and the Portage County Water Rescue Team. The teen disappeared while trying to reach shore, and his body was recovered about two hours later, roughly 25 feet from land and 10 feet underwater.

• Portage County property tax bills delayed over software update (record-courier.com) — Aurora homeowners will see their second-half 2026 property tax bills delayed until at least late summer as Portage County updates software for new state tax credits. While some districts gain savings, residents in Aurora and Kent are projected to see no relief from the changes, though they’ll still benefit from the extended Aug. 31 payment deadline without late fees.
