• Avon Historical Society September Monthly Meeting & Program (thevillagernewspaper.com) — Avon residents are invited to the Historical Society's public meeting on Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Olde Town Hall at Detroit and Stoney Ridge. Guest speaker Beryl Prusinoski will share the Revolutionary War-era story of the Firelands and early pioneer life, with more details available on the society's website or by phone.
   

• Avon got crushed 48-18 — and their coach, 'in a sick, crazy way,' is already excited about what comes next (cleveland.com) — Avon's defending Division II state champion football team took a rare 48-18 running-clock loss to Pine-Richland, but coach Mike Elder says the tough early schedule is designed to prepare his young Eagles for another deep playoff run. He believes the humbling defeat will help them grow before key SWC and postseason games.
   

• WATCH: Westlake police officers rescue fox from soccer net (fox8.com) — Westlake police officers recently freed a red fox tangled in a soccer net, using scissors to carefully cut it loose so it could run off unharmed. The department noted this followed a similar rescue last month in Avon, where officers freed a large owl caught in a net at Schwartz Road Park.
