Council is advancing legislation to purchase the building, while also approving website hosting, jury service payments, downtown road resurfacing, and other code and parks-related measures that will affect local services.

• Woman going to prison for allowing sex offender to live in home with children (cleveland19.com) — A Barberton woman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for endangering children by allowing a convicted sex offender to live in a home with minors in Summit County. Prosecutors say she knew his history yet still let him stay and allegedly helped shield him from law enforcement, while the man faces a separate trial later this year.

• From struggling homeless student to salutatorian, Ellet grad inspires (the-daily-record.com) — A Barberton resident who once struggled with homelessness has graduated as salutatorian from Ellet Community Learning Center after open enrolling there and juggling classes across Akron and the University of Akron. Her determination, long commutes, and research work earned her top regional recognition and scholarships, and she now plans to study pharmaceutical science and medicinal chemistry to improve epilepsy treatments for people like her loved ones.
