1. SEPTEMBER HEAT: Canton Opens Cooling Centers (whbc.com) — Canton is opening multiple daytime cooling centers through Friday, with free SARTA rides and even city dispatch help if you need transportation outside regular bus hours. Locations include a Canton fire station, Refuge of Hope, Stark Library branches, ICAN Housing, and the Ken Weber Goodwill Campus, offering safe, air-conditioned relief and in some cases food and water during this September heat.
   

2. Canton woman killed in shooting; local teen arrested (fox8.com) — A 21-year-old Canton woman was killed in a daytime shooting Tuesday on 11th Street NE, and police have arrested an 18-year-old Canton man on multiple charges. Investigators are still piecing together what happened and are asking anyone who saw or heard anything to contact the Canton Communications Center or Police Detective Bureau with tips.
   

3. Man sentenced in connection with 2025 crash that killed Canton police officer (wkyc.com) — Canton residents are learning that Garth Haines has been sentenced for vehicular manslaughter in the 2025 crash that killed Officer Dave Wolgamott of the Canton Police Department. A Canton Municipal Court judge ordered 90 days in jail with 45 suspended, plus 100 hours of community service, as the department and community continue to honor Wolgamott's long service and grieve his loss.
   

4. Annual human trafficking awareness event Sept. 12 at Walsh University (cantonrep.com) — Residents can take part in the free Community Freedom Summit on Sept. 12 at Walsh University's Cecchini Center in North Canton, focusing on human trafficking prevention with speakers from Covenant House. After the talks, attendees will join a silent one-mile walk, help assemble 500 self-care bags for local survivors, and explore resource tables, music, and refreshments.
   

5. Canton Carnival of Wheels is Sept. 13 at Stark State (cantonrep.com) — Car lovers from Canton can head to Stark State College on Sept. 13 for the 18th annual Canton Carnival of Wheels, running 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The free-admission show features hundreds of vehicles, kids' activities, food, auctions, and a $10 vehicle entry fee, with proceeds supporting Automotive Technology scholarships that have already helped more than 150 local students.
