1. ‘Cold-blooded murder:' Willowick man sentenced to life without parole for killing ex-wife in Chardon (cleveland.com) — A Willowick man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for fatally shooting his ex-wife outside her Chardon home in June 2025, in what the judge called a planned, cold-blooded murder. Prosecutors detailed how he bought a handgun days earlier, lured her to meet under the guise of discussing their children, and then shot her twice at close range before fleeing with their kids to a friend’s home.
   

2. Geauga County moves ahead with $3.1 million Safety Center roof replacement (cleveland.com) — Geauga County commissioners have approved a $3.11 million project to replace the badly leaking roof at the Safety Center on Merritt Road in Chardon, which houses the sheriff’s office, jail, and 911 operations. Work will start this fall, with the highest roof section done first and remaining areas finished by spring 2027 if winter weather delays construction.
   

3. ‘Large' theft of money reported from Hambden Volunteer Fire Department (fox8.com) — Authorities based in Chardon are investigating an alleged theft of a large sum of money from the Hambden Volunteer Fire Department by a longtime employee, prompting an emergency funding request to township trustees. While the exact amount is unknown, officials stress that fire and EMS service to Hambden and surrounding areas will continue uninterrupted and that a new station project remains on track.

Chardon High School Class of ‘76 reunites, opens time capsule (chagrinvalleytoday.com) — Chardon High School’s Class of 1976 just marked 50 years with a reunion that drew 59 classmates back together and unearthed a long-buried time capsule. Geauga County confirms 5 measles cases connected to outbreak (spectrumnews1.com) — Geauga Public Health, based in Chardon, has confirmed five local measles cases tied to a statewide outbreak and is tracing where infected people may have exposed others. Residents who attended the Bloomfield Horse Sale on July 18 or think they were exposed are urged to contact their doctor or health department, as measles spreads easily through the air and can linger for hours.
