Switching light fixtures could save Columbus City Schools nearly $60K a year (abc6onyourside.com subscription) — Columbus City Schools is upgrading lighting to LEDs in 10 buildings, a move expected to save nearly $60,000 in the first year and over $1 million by next school year. Funded through a federal grant, the project targets schools in historically underserved Columbus neighborhoods and supports the district's push toward carbon-free operations by 2050.
   

2. Latest update on John Glenn Columbus Airport's new terminal construction (dispatch.com) — Drivers using John Glenn Columbus International Airport will see big changes starting September 9, when a new approach road opens and the current cell phone lot near the rental car center closes. The $2 billion terminal project is also enclosing its new building and finishing roadway connections, with a larger, more streamlined terminal expected by 2028 or 2029.
   

3. Neighbors raise safety concerns at Columbus affordable housing property (nbc4i.com) — Neighbors in Columbus' Bronzeville neighborhood say years of 911 calls and documented problems at an affordable housing complex on Mt. Vernon Avenue have left them feeling unsafe and unheard. While city inspections found the property in compliance, residents are pressing Community Housing Network and city officials for stronger action, even as CHN cites legal limits and due process in handling alleged criminal activity.
   

4. Freshmen get a chance to impress in Buckeyes opener (nbc4i.com) — Ohio State kicks off its football season this Saturday at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, giving fans a first real look at a massive freshman class. Coaches and teammates say defensive back Jay Timmons and returner Legend Bey could make immediate impacts, with both already drawing praise for their mindset and work ethic.
   

5. Supercharged Entertainment Begins Construction on Columbus Indoor Karting Complex (geneonline.com) — Construction has started on a massive new Supercharged Entertainment complex in Columbus, promising what the company calls the world's largest indoor, multi-level karting track plus other attractions. While there's no opening date yet, the project signals a major new recreation option for local residents and could become a regional draw once completed.
