• Southern Local board names new superintendent (morningjournalnews.com) — A Hanoverton native, Mary Alice Sigler, has been named the new superintendent of Southern Local Schools, initially serving as interim before her three-year contract begins in August. Sigler, a longtime Columbiana County educator with deep special education experience, is returning to a district where she previously served as principal and assistant principal. The board also honored standout track athlete and Class of 2026 valedictorian Maddie Jones for her record-setting career.
