2. Volleyball Beats Cleveland State in Home Opener, 3-1 (kentstatesports.com) — Kent State volleyball opened its home schedule in Kent with a 3–1 win over Cleveland State, powered by a season-high 10 blocks and a dominant night from Mercedez Brown and Adalynn Ginley. Local fans can next see the Golden Flashes finish non-league play Friday at Youngstown State, as the team builds momentum heading into conference action.

3. It's a drill! Portage EMA, county staff learn at tornado, hazmat event (record-courier.com) — Portage County emergency officials recently ran a full-scale drill simulating a deadly tornado striking just outside downtown Kent and along the Route 59 corridor, plus a hazmat train leak in Ravenna. The exercise tested how agencies would shelter residents at Kent State's MAC Center, restore power and water, move people safely, and coordinate communications before a real disaster hits.

4. Early networking, tailored resumes key to landing internships as an underclassmen (kentstater.com) — Kent State students looking for internships are urged to start searching early, tailor resumes around class projects, and lean on networking through campus groups and local employers. One student turned a Kent-based internship at Davey Tree into a full-time job, while others found success by targeting in-person roles and building personal projects to stand out despite limited experience.

5. Ravenna sets meetings on changes to ward boundaries (record-courier.com) — Ravenna is redrawing its ward boundaries for the first time since 1972 and wants residents' input at two public meetings next week and in early October.
