1. State investing more than $11.7M to support communities, fuel business growth (highlandcountypress.com) — Lima is set to receive $2 million in state funding to widen and repave key stretches of McClain and Breese roads, improving access to the Amazon distribution center and Wieland Randall facility. The project is expected to create 232 jobs and retain 660 more, as part of a broader $11.7 million statewide development package.

2. Bird nest sparks fire at house on Cole Street (limaohio.com) — A Thursday morning house fire at 303 South Cole Street in Lima caused an estimated $45,000 in damage, but all three residents and two dogs escaped safely. Firefighters say a bird’s nest ignited while a resident used a heat gun near the roof, with crews bringing the blaze under control in under 20 minutes.

3. Demolition of vacant Sherman Avenue house brings relief to neighborhood residents (hometownstations.com) — A long-abandoned, unsafe house on Sherman Avenue in Lima has finally been demolished, easing years of concern for nearby residents. After repeated complaints, the Allen County Land Bank and local officials coordinated a “hot” demolition that followed EPA precautions, removing a major eyesore and improving safety and appearance for the neighborhood.

4. LATA tennis camp introduces local youth to the game and life lessons (hometownstations.com) — For nearly five decades, the Lima Area Tennis Association has been giving local kids a free, two-week summer camp that teaches tennis skills and life lessons. This year about 120 Lima-area children, ages 5 to 17, learned fundamentals from volunteers, including former camper and UNOH player Abigail Beck, who credits the program with opening doors in her own life.

5. Northwest Ohio Students Awarded Scholarships for Health Care Careers (wowo.com) — Lima Memorial Health System has awarded scholarships to five Northwest Ohio students pursuing health care careers, chosen from nearly 100 applicants. Hospital leaders say the Auxiliary and Nursing Alumnae scholarship programs aim to ease education costs while building a stronger pipeline of nurses and clinicians who will serve Lima and surrounding communities in the years ahead.
