Massillon is about to get its first roundabout, a $1.1M project (cantonrep.com) ā Massillon drivers will see major changes this summer as the city builds its first roundabout at Main Avenue W and Tremont Avenue SW, with construction starting in June and finishing by November. Funded mostly by a federal grant, the $1.16 million project will reroute traffic, post detours, and aims to make this awkward, crash-prone intersection much safer for nearby residents and daily commuters.

2. 19-Year-Old Dies in Fiery Crash After 4 People Rush to Pull Him from Burning Vehicle (people.com) ā Massillon residents are mourning a 19-year-old driver who died after his car crossed the center line on Finefrock Road SW, struck a pickup on a bridge near Erie Street South, and caught fire. Four passersby pulled him from the burning vehicle, the truck driver suffered minor injuries, and Massillon police continue to investigate.

Driver strikes Perry police cruiser during rainstorm (cantonrep.com) ā A Perry Township police officer and another driver were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a head-on collision during a heavy rainstorm on Anna Avenue NW near Tuscarawas Street W, just outside Massillon. State troopers say the southbound driverās car went left of center and struck the cruiser, and OSHP is handling the investigation to avoid any local conflict of interest.

Indian River guard details violent work life for staff at juvenile correctional facility (news5cleveland.com) ā Conditions at Massillonās Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility are under scrutiny as a weekend corrections officer describes frequent assaults on staff and ongoing safety fears. She and union leaders say understaffing, gang activity, and limited consequences for violent teens are driving daily incidents, and theyāre pressing state leaders for more resources, policy changes, and long-term reforms.
