• Buddy Check Veterans Awareness Walk returns to Veterans Park in Mentor (news-herald.com) — Mentor residents are invited to join the third annual Buddy Check Veterans Awareness Walk at Veterans Park on Sept. 19, with a 2.2-mile walk stepping off at 11 a.m. Organized by AMVETS Post 109, the event raises funds for local veterans' agencies and emphasizes support networks so veterans know they have "battle buddies" in the community.
   

• News-Herald football Top of the Crop for Sept. 7 (news-herald.com) — Mentor High's football team has slipped from first to fourth in the News-Herald's latest "Top of the Crop" rankings after a lopsided loss to St. Ignatius, and now looks to rebound against Brunswick. Several other nearby programs, including Perry, Kirtland, and Mayfield, are climbing the list, setting up a competitive stretch of games for area fans.
