Niles residents, councilmen raise concerns over proposed data center (wfmj.com) — Niles residents packed a City Council meeting to question a proposed Bitdeer data center on Belmont Avenue, raising worries about water, power, noise, and neighborhood impacts. Company representatives said the facility would use sewers and avoid the city power grid, while council members discussed tax-sharing with Weathersfield and a possible six‑month moratorium before any vote.

Man accused of robbery and officer assault enters plea (wkbn.com) — A man has pleaded guilty in a case that began with a December 2024 robbery at the Cash for Gold store in Niles and later involved assaults during crashes in Warren. The plea to aggravated robbery, felonious assault, and vandalism spares a trial, with sentencing to follow a pre-sentence investigation.

Weathersfield police officers save man's life (tribtoday.com) — Weathersfield trustees approved a county contract to improve Niles Carver and Salt Springs roads, a project scheduled for late spring or early summer that will not cost the township. At the same meeting, two young Weathersfield police officers were honored for calmly talking a distressed man off the Salt Springs Road bridge over I-80, actions leaders say exemplified compassionate, professional policing.

4. Niles man gets 20 to 25 years in prison for rape and gross sexual imposition (tribtoday.com) — A Niles resident has been sentenced in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to 20 to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of rape and gross sexual imposition involving child victims. The judge called it one of the most despicable cases he’s seen, and the defendant will have to register as a sex offender for life after release.

Scrappers host Cleveland legend Kenny Lofton, July 24 (wfmj.com) — Niles-area baseball fans can meet Cleveland legend Kenny Lofton when the Mahoning Valley Scrappers host him at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood on Friday, July 24, capped by Fairfield Inn Warren-Niles–sponsored fireworks. VIP packages include a meet-and-greet, autograph, game ticket, and loaded stadium credit, while a shorter general autograph session will also be offered.
