• Columbus Zoo and Aquarium one of few homes to the rare echidna (nbc4i.com) — Powell residents can now see one of North America’s rare echidna babies at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, which successfully bred a “puggle” after three years of work. Keepers in Powell are closely monitoring the youngster’s underground development while using its mother, Edna, as an animal ambassador to teach visitors about this unusual egg-laying mammal.
• UC grad and Honda employee helps race team win Indy 500 (uc.edu) — A race engineer who grew up in Powell helped his IndyCar team capture the closest finish in Indy 500 history, winning by just 0.023 seconds. Now a UC graduate working with Honda, he monitored the engine trackside and joined the traditional milk celebration and brick-kissing after the dramatic victory.
