• Payne County group seeks grand jury investigation into former district attorney (news9.com) — A Payne County parents’ group based in Stillwater has filed a petition seeking a grand jury investigation into former District 9 District Attorney Laura Thomas over alleged mishandling of child abuse cases. No court has ruled on the claims, but incoming DA Jeremiah Gregory says he supports an independent review to help restore public trust in the local justice system. 
• A dog fell into an Oklahoma drain covered by thick metal bars, and it took a fire crew and animal officers working together to get her out (attackofthefanboy.com) — Animal welfare officers and firefighters in Stillwater teamed up to rescue a dog trapped in a street drain covered by heavy metal bars, then rushed her to a vet to be checked out. The case, shared by Stillwater Animal Welfare, highlights both summer heat dangers for pets and the 24-hour local response residents can call on when animals are in distress.
• Durango man makes National Wrestling Hall of Fame (durangoherald.com) — A Durango athlete with deep wrestling roots was honored in Stillwater with the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Medal of Courage. Patrick Morrissey’s induction recognizes both his standout wrestling career and his extraordinary fundraising and ocean-rowing efforts for Parkinson’s research, including a record-setting California-to-Hawaii row and an upcoming documentary aimed at raising even more awareness.
