📰 News we're reading

1. Why this Cantonese food truck left Portland for Beaverton (portlandtribune.com) — A popular Cantonese and Hainanese food truck, Hawker Station, has just moved its operations to Southwest First Street at Breakside's Beaverton beer garden, bringing its well-loved chicken-and-rice dishes closer to local diners. Owner and Beaverton resident Andy Kou cites Portland's rising costs, crime, and intense food cart competition as reasons for relocating, and plans to expand the menu with more Hong Kong-inspired items soon.

2. West Linn motorcyclist dies in Thursday afternoon crash in Beaverton (beavertonvalleytimes.com) — Beaverton police are investigating a Thursday afternoon collision on Southwest Cascade Avenue that fatally injured a 64-year-old West Linn motorcyclist, marking the city's second deadly motorcycle crash in a week. The rider later died at the hospital, while the Toyota Camry driver is cooperating as Beaverton officers and the Washington County crash team reconstruct what happened.

3. Nike staff accused of trying to cover up teen athlete's sexual assault (kgw.com) — A federal lawsuit claims a 16-year-old athlete was raped while attending a Nike Elite track and field program in Beaverton, and that Nike and National Scholastic Athletics Foundation staff tried to pressure her to call it consensual and avoid police. The family instead contacted Beaverton police, and criminal charges against the accused assailant are reportedly pending. The suit alleges Nike and NSAF failed to protect minors in their care.

4. Late field goal lifts Westview over Glencoe 24-21 (beavertonvalleytimes.com) — Westview High School in Beaverton snapped its early-season skid Friday night with a dramatic 24-21 home win over Glencoe, sealed by Hank Whitworth's 18-yard field goal with seven seconds left. After back-to-back losses to Grants Pass and West Linn, the Wildcats rallied behind big plays from Whitworth and receiver Tahkai Smith, who believe this victory can spark a season turnaround.
