Driver charged with homicide after crashing into pedestrian near Pa. casino (pennlive.com) — A pedestrian was killed Monday afternoon in a crosswalk near Wind Creek Casino in Bethlehem, and a 24-year-old Allentown man is charged with vehicular homicide and related offenses. Police say he was speeding, using his cellphone, possibly under the influence, and fled before being arrested on the Minsi Trail Bridge. Blood-test results and potential additional charges are still pending.
   

2. SouthSide Arts District marks 30 years of ChiliFest with a $35 tasting passport (lehighdaily.com) — Bethlehem's SouthSide Arts District is celebrating 30 years of ChiliFest on Oct. 17 with a $35 tasting passport that lets you sample every competing chili along Third and Fourth streets. Passports must be picked up locally, and attendees can snag two hours of free parking by donating food to the Bethlehem Parking Authority drive, plus enjoy live music and special 30th-anniversary merch.
   

3. Around the Valley: Wiffle ball league gives former high school athletes another shot at competing, and having fun doing it (mcall.com) — Bethlehem sports fans can mark Oct. 21 for the Blue Mountain League Hall of Fame banquet at Prime Steakhouse on Stoke Park Road, with tickets costing $40 by mail. The broader column also spotlights a competitive local wiffle ball league and the Lehigh Valley Softball Hall of Fame ceremony, celebrating the region's deep bench of amateur athletes and coaches.
   

4. Bob Brooks releases first TV ad of the general campaign (inquirer.com) — A former Bethlehem firefighter, Democrat Bob Brooks, is highlighting his local roots and union background in his first TV ad as he challenges Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in Pennsylvania's 7th Congressional District.
