Downingtown vigilante who ‘hunted' pedophiles sentenced to prison for beating elderly man with hammer (inquirer.com) — A Downingtown resident who portrayed himself online as a vigilante targeting suspected pedophiles has been sentenced to state prison for a violent 2024 assault on an elderly man in West Chester. Prosecutors detailed severe, recorded abuse and lasting injuries before the victim’s death, while the defense cited the defendant’s past trauma and mental health issues.

Downingtown STEM Academy Alum Helped Make NASA's Artemis II Mission Possible (vista.today) — A Downingtown STEM Academy graduate just helped make NASA’s Artemis II moon mission a success, and the Downingtown Area School District is celebrating his achievement. Cameron O’Rourke, now a NASA engineer, credits his STEM Academy education with shaping the skills and confidence that carried him from Chester County classrooms to the Kennedy Space Center launch team.

Lowe's Employees Had to Use a Forklift to Rescue 7 Newborn Kittens From a High Shelf (star-telegram.com) — Seven newborn kittens were discovered high on a shelf at the Lowe’s on Cornerstone Boulevard in Downingtown, prompting employees to use a forklift so rescuers could safely reach them. Chester County’s Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue is now bottle-feeding the kittens, charmingly named after hardware-store themes, and expects they’ll be ready for local adoption in about six to seven weeks.

Quick start helps Shanahan end three-game losing streak by beating Coatesville (centredaily.com) — Bishop Shanahan’s girls lacrosse team bounced back in Downingtown with a dominant 18-7 win over Coatesville at Jack Mancini Stadium, snapping a rare three-game skid that included a loss to Downingtown West. Eleven Eagles scored, with strong defense and a fast 10-0 start setting the tone for a much-needed Ches-Mont League confidence boost.
