5 Fun Things To Do This Weekend In Bucks County

DOYLESTOWN, PA — There are lots of fun things to do this weekend to welcome August and the dog days of summer.

Two festivals are on the schedule - one will celebrate summer's favorite fruit - the peach - in Lahaska. The other will celebrate summer's favorite vegetable - sweet corn. They both sound delicious.

For the kids, the Doylestown Summer Academy will be bringing "Shrek Jr., the Musical" to the stage in New Hope while the Churchville Nature Center hosts Arthropalooza, a two-day event all about arthropods.

Festival Celebrates Summer's Favorite Fruit

There's something special about biting into a fresh, juicy peach on a warm summer's day. The delicious, succulent taste makes the heat more bearable. With the peak of the peach season here, it's time to celebrate summertime's favorite fruit. And Peddler's Village will be doing just that this weekend. The Bucks County shopping and dining destination, recently named the top shopping destination in the nation, will present its annual Peach Festival on Saturday and Sunday, August 1 and 2, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“Creepy Crawlers” Invade Churchville

Insects, spiders, and crustaceans, oh yes. Arthropalooza will bring all kinds of arthropods to the Churchville Nature Center this weekend for a two-day science-based learning experience on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Arthropalooza offers educational fun for all ages by providing outdoor stations, exhibits, demonstrations and tours that are designed for interactive, science-based learning, in Churchville Nature Center’s gardens, patio, and Butterfly House.

Academy Brings Shrek Jr. To The Stage

The Doylestown Theatre Academy brings the magic of live theater to the stage this week when it presents "Shrek Jr., the Musical" on Friday, July 31, and Saturday, Aug. 1 for four shows only. Performances will be held at 2 and 7 p.m. both days at the New Hope-Solebury High School on Bridge Street in New Hope Borough. Filled with comedy, fairytale characters, dance numbers, and memorable songs, Shrek Jr. is a show that children and adults alike will love.

Sweet Corn Festival At Lower Bucks Farm

The fourth annual Sweet Corn Festival takes place on Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Charlann Farms, 586 Stony Hill Road, in Lower Makefield. "We love our sweet corn and really feel this sweet and crunchy symbol of summer deserves to be celebrated," the farm said. The festival will feature fresh corn-on-the-cob, corn-themed games and activities, live music by The Country Mile Band, plus Line Dance Lessons by DJ Shotgun Jenny. Admission is $14.99 per person.

Step Inside Newtown's Half-Moon Inn

Guided tours are offered Sunday afternoons from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Historic Half-Moon Inn, 105 Court Street, Newtown. Headquarters of the Newtown Historic Association, most rooms have been beautifully decorated with period furniture and appointments. A once-in-a-lifetime exhibit documenting The History of Newtown will also be open for exploration. Curated especially for the nation’s 250th birthday, the unique walk-through exhibit highlights Newtown’s 300 years of history. There is no fee, but donations are gladly accepted. Mark your calendars for Saturday, Aug. 8. Newtown will be celebrating the nation's 250th with a day packed with exciting and educational events.
