Doylestown Historians Hosting Tour Of Castle Valley Mill

DOYLESTOWN, PA — The Doylestown Historical Society will host a special tour of the historic Castle Valley Mill on August 9 at 1 p.m.

Dating back to 1730, Castle Valley Mill has been a cornerstone of local history since it began grinding grains on the banks of Neshaminy Creek. Originally constructed on land granted to the Meredith family by William Penn, the mill has been known historically as Grove’s Mill and Reed’s Mill, evolving into the Castle Valley Mill that remains a vital part of the community’s
heritage today.

"Step back in time as you explore the historic mill and learn how grain was transformed into one of life’s most essential foods," said the historians. "This event offers attendees a unique opportunity to explore the historical significance and role of mills throughout Bucks County."

The program will feature an overview of the mill. Additionally, a local expert will describe culinary colonial traditions and
display colonial cooking implements. Guests will be invited to savor a taste of colonial fare with small samples of bread, cheese, honey, and cider.

Copies of the DHS Colonial cookbook will be available for purchase during the event.
