New Superintendent Takes The Helm In Central Bucks
Dr. Joanna Wexler spends a busy first week "listening, learning, and beginning to build relationships."

DOYLESTOWN, PA — Dr. Joanna Wexler has officially joined the staff as the new superintendent of the Central Bucks School District. Her first day on the job was Monday, July 6.
"Since being named the finalist in March and participating in the community forums in April, I have received such a warm welcome. It is truly an honor to join this incredible district and community," she said in a video message released by the district on Friday. "My first few days have been focused on listening, learning, and beginning to build relationships," she said.
Her first week at the helm of the third-largest school district in Pennsylvania included meetings with the district's executive leadership team to discuss district goals, priorities, and preparations for a successful start to the new school year ahead.

"Additionally, I am eager to meet with each of our 23 principals over the next several weeks," said Wexler. "These conversations are especially important as we continue to prepare for grade realignment and full-day kindergarten in the fall, two major milestones for our district."
Wexler shared that one of the highlights of her first week on the job was visiting the district's summer learning programs at Groveland Elementary and Lenape Middle where she saw "firsthand the outstanding work of our special education and support staff and the enthusiasm of our students.

"As the school year commences, I'll continue to visit our schools to learn about their unique strengths and the people who make them special," said Wexler.
The new superintendent also met and welcomed the district's new chief financial officer, Wayne Gehris, who comes to the district from the Reading School District. He also began his duties as the district's new CFO on July 6.
Wexler said one of her key priorities will be "building a strong executive leadership team by filling key administrative positions with professionals who bring experience, expertise, and a shared commitment to serving our students, staff, and families."
In the coming weeks, Wexler said the district will be posting job opportunities for two director positions "to support the broad and important needs" of special education, gifted education, and student support services.
"This staffing decision supports one of several recommendations from an independent evaluation of the district's programming" conducted by the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI). The district contracted CAREI (from the University of Minnesota) to evaluate its pupil services department and special education programs.
"Beyond our schools, I look forward to connecting with our community," said Wexler. "We are already planning engagement events where I can meet with families, teachers, staff, and community members. I also hope to see many of you at athletic events, concerts, plays, and other school activities I'm excited to attend throughout the year.
"Again, thank you for the warm welcome," said Wexler in her video message. "You'll be hearing from me regularly with updates on district initiatives, projects, and the great things happening across the district. I'm excited to meet many more of you in the weeks and months ahead."
