Open Space Preserved In Horsham Township

HORSHAM TOWNSHIP, PA — The township has acquired some open space for preservation.

The Horsham Township Council has approved the acquisition of 1.77 acres for protected environmental open space.

The property located on McKean Road is entirely in the floodplain, township officials said.

The structures on the property were heavily damaged in 2021 during Tropical Storm Ida and the tornado.

The township used FEMA Repetitive Damage Program funding to purchase the property and demolish the structures.

The property will now be allowed to return to its natural state, and township officials said there will be no public access or use of the property.

It will return to its natural purpose for flood mitigation, woodlands and wildlife habitat.

With this addition, the township is approaching the preservation of 900 acres of open space and parks.

"We are proud of our legacy to protect these lands," township officials said. "We can’t buy every property, but we will continue to protect as much as we can."
