The Parkinson's Foundation is recruiting volunteers for the Jim Thorpe Area Running Festival on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26. We are forming a volunteer team to assist event staff and support the race’s focus on Veterans and their health and wellness. We are looking for volunteers that are interested in assisting with race weekend operations.
The healthcare of our Veterans is an important topic to us. More than 110,000 veterans with Parkinson’s receive specialized care through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The Parkinson’s Foundation provides free resources and programs for those newly diagnosed or living with PD and their care partners, and we partner with the VA to help this community.
Our Helpline assists Veterans with understanding and navigating the health care system and Veteran’s benefits. We also provide information on community programs, local and online support groups, and tools such as our Hospital Safety Guide. These services are offered at no cost.
With that focus in mind, we are looking to not only support this race weekend but also help what we feel is an underserved community in Pennsylvania. By partnering with this race weekend, we can help raise awareness of the many resources available for the PD community and connect Veterans and their families with support programs they may not have learned about otherwise.
