📰 News we're reading

1. Johnstown Lounge Plans Derailed (fox8tv.com) — City officials in Johnstown quickly moved to halt a proposed Crabhouse Lounge that had been advertised on Facebook for Strayer Street in the West End, citing zoning and permitting concerns. After attention from the police chief, city manager, and mayor, the man behind the idea says the lounge is officially canceled and insists he only intended a seafood hangout, not adult entertainment.

2. Dog Rescued From Stoneycreek River (fox8tv.com) — Johnstown firefighters rescued a frightened dog from the Stoneycreek River on Thursday after finding her running along the river wall. Crews used ropes to reach her, and she escaped with only minor scratches. The dog, now nicknamed River, is headed to a local vet for a checkup while officials work to learn where she came from.

3. Cambria County Rep. speaks out over proposed gas rate increase (wtaj.com) — Johnstown residents could see higher gas bills after Peoples Natural Gas asked state regulators to approve a double-digit base-rate hike for homes and businesses. Cambria County Rep. Frank Burns is urging the Public Utility Commission to reject the plan, arguing many Johnstown-area residents, already in one of America’s poorest small cities, can’t absorb another major increase.

4. Caleb Burke overcomes injury in preparation of 2026 NFL draft (dailyamerican.com) — A Richland High School graduate from Johnstown is chasing his NFL dream after rehabbing a serious knee injury in time for a key Pro Day workout. He credits Johnstown’s blue-collar grit and his local upbringing for the toughness driving his draft push. Residents can follow his journey as he awaits a possible call from an NFL team later this month.
