Geisinger highlights hospital upgrades, nursing school growth (lewistownsentinel.com) — Renovations at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital are nearly finished, meaning most patients will soon have private rooms and access to expanded emergency and lab services. The Lewistown campus of Geisinger’s nursing school is also growing, with more students and potential new programs that could boost local healthcare staffing. Leaders say a recent land purchase may further support EMS transport services for Lewistown patients.
   

2. Restaurant project set to combine historic properties (lewistownsentinel.com) — Two East Market Street buildings in downtown Lewistown are being combined into a new locally owned restaurant overlooking the square, with construction targeted for completion by year’s end. One deteriorated former diner building will be demolished to create modern kitchen and outdoor dining space, while the neighboring historic structure is slated for restoration and reuse. Developers say local contractors will handle most of the work.
   

3. Overdose Prevention Program is expanding in rural counties (timesobserver.com) — Mifflin County residents now have wider access to free naloxone, including through Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and local “Barney Box” pickup sites, as part of Pennsylvania’s expanding Overdose Prevention Program. The Juniata Valley Tri-County Drug & Alcohol Commission has already distributed nearly 1,200 doses across Huntingdon, Juniata, and Mifflin counties to help reverse opioid overdoses and connect people with treatment.
   

4. When will Big Boy steam locomotive return to Pennsylvania? (ydr.com) — Lewistown rail fans can see Union Pacific’s massive “Big Boy” steam locomotive at the Roadhouse Road crossing on July 8, arriving at 12:45 p.m. and departing at 1:15. The historic engine is touring Pennsylvania with additional stops in Lebanon, Altoona, Philadelphia, and other communities through early July.
