Intoxicated Texas Driver Strikes Police Car In Marple Twp.: Authorities

MARPLE TOWNSHIP, PA — An intoxicated Texas man struck a State Police vehicle Wednesday night on Interstate 476 in Marple Township, authorities said.

The marked police car had its emergency lights flashing in a construction zone while parked on the right shoulder of I-476 North when it was rear-ended at around 11:35 p.m., according to State Police.

A trooper inside the vehicle sustained minor injuries.

The striking driver — identified as Ayodele Adegbite, 53, of Houston — was trying to get onto Exit 5 during the crash. He was arrested after showing signs of impairment and failing sobriety tests, police said.

While arresting Adegbite, police say they found a THC vaping device in his possession.

Adegbite was charged with misdemeanor DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and reckless endangerment. He was also ticketed for careless driving.

A judge set bail at $50,000 unsecured. Adegbite must return to court for a preliminary hearing, set for Sept. 11.
