Pennsylvania has a split state legislature — the Democratic Party holds a 103-100 majority in the House of Representatives, while Republicans have a 27-23 majority in the State Senate.

With the governorship, all house seats and half of the senate seats up for election, party control of Pennsylvania state politics is on the line.

The Democratic Party, spearheaded by Gov. Josh Shapiro's re-election campaign, saw an opportunity to control all three chambers for the first time since 1993, which was also the last time the party controlled the State Senate.

Shortly after polls closed, the AP called the race for Shapiro against Republican and State Treasurer Stacy Garrity. As of this writing, neither party has secured a projected majority in the State Senate and House of Representatives.

All election results are unofficial until certified on a later date.

State Senate District 26 includes Marple, Newtown, Ridley, Springfield, Upper Darby and Upper Providence. Aldan, Clifton Heights, East Lansdowne, Glenolden, Lansdowne, Media, Millbourne, Morton, Prospect Park, Ridley Park, Rutledge and Swarthmore.
